Calhoun County is governed under a Council/Administrator format. The council consists of seven members representing individual districts and a Chairman who is elected at-large. The County Council serves four-year terms.

Calhoun County is composed of four districts: Sandy Run-Staley CCD, St. Matthews CCD, Fort Motte & Lone Star CCD, and Cameron CCD.
