Saint Matthews
Quality of Life Saint Matthews, South Carolina offers the best of
all worlds for its citizens. We are located just 32 miles from the
state capital of Columbia and 80 miles from the port city of
Charleston. St. Matthews serves as the County Seat of Calhoun
County. Low property taxes, numerous recreational activities,
friendly people and a low crime rate all combine to make our county
the most attractive place to live in central South Carolina.
Like many counties in central SC, we offer both public and
private school systems. This allows parents to choose between the
well-financed public school with larger classes or the smaller class
sizes that are offered by the private school. When our students
graduate from high school, there are numerous public and private
colleges and universities as well as technical schools available for
them if they wish to further their education.
The City of St. Matthews offers a downtown area complete with
grocery stores, pharmacies, banks, fast food restaurants, furniture
stores, antique shops as well as other stores that are found in most
small southern towns. You won’t find traffic jams, air pollution,
excessive noise or long check out lines!
Calhoun County is well known as a fishing and hunting haven.
Deer, dove, duck, catfish and bass are all plentiful. The Congaree
River and Lake Marion also afford us the opportunity to enjoy all
forms of water sports. For the avid golfer, the Calhoun Country Club
offers a beautiful fully irrigated 18-hole golf course.
We are blessed here in our county with several fine doctors and
dentists. Friendly affordable health care is readily available. The
Calhoun convalescent Center offers our citizens quality health care
when they can no longer care for themselves. Located only ten miles
from St. Matthews is The Regional Medical Center. This full service
hospital has approximately 250 beds.
We feel we live in a first class community. Our mild climate,
great geographical location, and affordable standard of living make
Calhoun County the perfect place to live and work.
