Ambassador - David Rickenbaker
David Rickenbaker was born and raised in Calhoun County. As a
high school student at Calhoun Academy, David worked at Hi-Cotton
Greenhouses. He enjoyed the challenge and decided to major in
horticulture at Clemson University. After graduation, he purchased
the business, Hi Cotton Greenhouses, that inspired his career.
David and his partner, Brent Crenshaw, now have a thriving
business. Much of the growth can be attributed to the addition of
summer crops. Previously, the market was a traditional, spring/fall
bedding and poinsettia market. Now they are busy year-round with the
addition of a summer product line.
Hi-Cotton expanded their market
by shipping to landscapers in four states. They started with only a
few employees and have grown through the years. They are now having
their best year ever.
Our 2007 nominee for Ambassador for Calhoun County is active in
the county and is active in many civic and business organizations.
He was elected Young Alumni Clemson University of the year 2002,
Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College Commission member, Past
President of Southeastern Greenhouses Growers Association, member of
the Calhoun County Chamber of Commerce, Calhoun County Chamber
Business of the year 2004, and member of First Baptist Church where
he is presently on the Finance Committee.
David Rickenbaker and Hi-Cotton Greenhouses have helped Calhoun
County’s overall economy with jobs, capital investment, and tax
base.
This young entrepreneur deserves receiving the Calhoun County
Ambassador of the year for 2007.
The Ambassadors ceremony will coincide with the commencement of
South Carolina Industry Appreciation Week (September 17-21, 2007).
We are excited about this year’s ceremony also serving as the focal
point for the kick-off of Industry Appreciation Week.
The presentation ceremony will be held on September 17, 2007
at 11:00 a.m. at the Governor’s Mansion Complex (Mall area and Lace
House) in Columbia. We will be extending special written invitations
to the Ambassador and a guest, as well as to the local economic
development professional. There will be a luncheon at the Lace House
following the ceremony. |
