CALHOUN COUNTY CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
BUSINESS PERSON OF THE YEAR 2009

The Calhoun County Chamber of Commerce has chosen the 2009 recipient for the Business Person of the Year award.

His story began in Calhoun County where he has lived most of his life.  He graduated from
Calhoun Academy in 1989 and continued his education at Clemson University where he graduated in 1994 with a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture Degree.

After graduation our honoree was employed with T. Hunter McEaddy Associates, a landscape architecture firm in Charleston that concentrated on garden design in historic Charleston, Mt. Pleasant, Kiawah Island and the Isle of Palms.

In 1997, he passed the licensure exam to become a registered landscape architect with the State of South Carolina.

Our nominee was employed by Kenneth B. Simmons Associates in Columbia from 2000 – 2005 as project manager for projects ranging from parks and recreation to streetscape and revitalization.

In 2002, at the National Annual Meeting for the American society of Landscape Architects (ASLA), he was installed at President of the Society’s South Carolina Chapter. He has also served on the organization Board as Vice President, Secretary and two terms as an Executive Committee member.

In addition to his involvement with ASLA, our Business Person of 2009, has also served on the Design/Build Advisory Committee at Clemson University, the Town of St. Matthews Board of Zoning Appeals and currently serves on the St. Matthews Town Council.

In November 2005, he joined with Fred Gantt to open the landscape architecture division with Hay Hill Services, a full service landscape, masonry and concrete construction company.

Local projects our honoree has assisted with or designed include Calhoun County Revitalization, Streetscape, Calhoun County Library, OC Tech Foundation, and local garden clubs.  He has assisted many local residents with the design as well as implementation of their projects.

Hay Hill with his assistance has received much recognition over the past several years.  Smith Turf and Irrigation has awarded  Hay Hill the President’s Club award for several years as well as 2009 contractor of the year for Tennessee, North Carolina, and South Carolina.

His talented design skills and hard work have made Hay Hill Services one of the best designed build firms in the state.
In his spare time he enjoys hunting, fishing and spending time with his family and friends.

Our honoree is married to the former Tamara Walters of Orangeburg, SC and they have two boys, Jesse and Dodd.  His parents are Barbara Stack and the late John David Stack.

I am going to give you some news regarding a big honor which Hay Hill has just received this week and it has not yet been announced…’Hay Hill Services has been selected Best of Columbia by the readers of Columbia Metropolitan in the category of Best Landscaping Company 2009.’
